The story of a family company in Oyonnax
It is in 1980 when Edmond Maitre, founder of the company, decided to create his own eyewear.
At that time, he set up the basis of Optisun know-how in his garage. In 1985, the company was born, and numbered 10 employees.
In 1990, his son, Olivier, joined the company.
He quickly understood that modernising the production equipment was necessary to sustain the eyewear industry and French know-how, dear to his heart. This is when the company made its own numerical control machines to modernize the factory, provide new technics and production processes.
Today the Optisun company employs around 60 people and is known in the eyewear industry thanks to its know-how and its expertise.

The story of a building legacy
The factory, previously owned by the Deslile family, was used to manufacture frame arms and was therefore perfectly suitable for the needs of eyewear manufacturing.
The neighbouring building, annexed afterwards, was used before for the production of Barreau hair slides.
It was built at the end of the 19th century and is typical of the industrial buildings at that time. Indeed, to avoid fires due to very inflammable Celluloid, the boxes had no timber frame connection.
The old owner’s dwelling was also annexed to the factory and is today used as offices.
Through lack of factory space, a very modern extension has been added to the old factory building which provides a blend of old and modern walls.
